In an effort to speed up the cycle of Lunabar releases (i.e. more than once every two years <cough>) we have decided to be like everyone else and release betas. The main download page now links to beta 01 of Lunabar 6.30. It doesn’t look radically different, but there are changes:
- More Vista-friendly program and installer
- Option to write data to a file to interface with Rainmeter (for “skinners”) - semi-implemented; instructions to follow
- Revamped “Full Moon Tradition” selector with new options such as “Simplified Maine Farmers Almanac” tradition
- An automatic option to disable our fade-in/fade-out code when running under Vista with Aero (which does its own fades) - not yet implemented

My favorite astrological datebook is back. Its not as flashy as some but its much more useful.
Annie Bone’s Celestial Forecaster has narrative astrological “weather” forecasts for the year. The difference between this and most other astro datebooks is she explains her conclusions. A Pisces moon will mean this and a moon/Jupiter conjunction will cause that. Multi-day events like a retrograde Mercury will have a complete writeup at their beginning.
It’s a valuable learning tool as well as a guidebook. Highly recommended. Linkage.
Update: it’s shipped and also I have seen it available in some stores.

We’ll be putting up classic reviews of Lunabar fro time to time. Not recent, but we still like ‘em.
…In addition to displaying the phases of the moon as an icon, Lunabar offers the Lunar Almanack. The almanac, which is just a mouse click away, contains the daily rising, southing, and setting times of the moon at your location as well as the moon phase, constellation, sign, and lunar-related quotations and lore. A built-in calendar allows you to find lunar information for virtually any date, and a button bar lets you access options and different dates with ease. This release adds the Neo-Pagan Full Moon tradition, a sleek new look with Office 97-style toolbar buttons, more options for the name of the moon’s nodes, support for alternate icons (available from the author’s web site), bug fixes, and much more.

Some works in dead of night are better done, or when the morning
Dew prevents the sun. Parch’d meads and stubble mow by
Phoebe’s [The Moon’s] light, which both require the coolness of the night;
For moisture then abounds, and pearly rains
Descend in silence to refresh the plains.
- Dryden’s trans. of Virgil’s “Georgics,” Book I.

Welcome to the new Infra-Azure Labs / Lunabar / Lunabooks / Clysmic web site.
I think the blog format will allow for (much) more timely updating.
